In the compact digital camera market, finding the absolute best digital camera can be quite a trick, because your needs or expectations in a camera may not be the same as someone else.
But finding the top rated compact digital camera in a particular category may narrow the field and be doable.
There are plenty of web sites that have camera reviews (I have visited more than I care to share), so finding a really good camera geek can be frustrating. If you rely on one site to purchase the camera of your dreams, and he did not get the review right, you are up the proverbial creek without the necessary rowing implement.
OK, so here is my recommendation about how to quickly narrow down your selection to the perfect camera.
Find someone who really likes to do research and have him find a few selections for you.. All you have to do is read his report and make your choice from a few recommendations (rather than the literally thousands of choices that are available).
Newsflash: I’m the guy!
I have looked, and searched, and looked some more until I dream in pink and blue megapixels. The result is that I have come up with a pretty short list of great cameras that will not disappoint even the most discerning camera buff. In addition to looking at the geek reviews, I checked the online stores to find out what the buyers of each camera had to say about their purchases. The cameras with great geek reviews and the most positive buyer reviews pushed those cameras to the top of my list.
One point before I reveal my coveted list. These are Compact Digital Cameras, not DSLR cameras. Every point and shoot camera has its limitations simply because one camera can not do everything for everybody. If you have only one fixed lens, you will be limited to the capabilities of that lens.
And… that necessarily leads to the second point. Each camera that I recommend will be in a category with guidelines that make it great in that category.
