How do I achieve a double exposure effect in photoshop?
I have a digital camera and after a few moderately successful (but quite difficult) attempts at doing double exposures with it, I think I am willing to submit to the almighty power of photoshop. How would I best achieve the look of traditional double exposures on a film camera in photoshop? Should I just put one image over the other and then turn down the opacity? Is there a layer blending mode that would look more realistic? Or maybe a more complicated procedure? I’ve never really got into film photography so I don’t QUITE understand the details of how double exposures work on film, so I don’t know how to best mimic it in Photoshop. Thanks for any help!
Thanks guys. I was hoping for some way to best emulate the effect of a double exposure on film, but I guess it’s probably mostly just about what looks right since the effects and be so variable.
It sounds like you already have a very good idea on how to proceed.
There isn’t a single formula to suggest since every photo is so different, and it also matter so very much just exactly what look you’re going for at any given time.
Start with the basics you described, then experiment with layer styles and anything else that strikes you as a possibility.
